Hi & first stupid question

Hello, I am a fish keeper of some 60+ years experience but haven't done too much with puffers since the 50's & 60's when C. Lorteti ( then Somphongsi) was by far the most readily available puffer in the hobby in my area. I presently am 'patiently' waiting for some action from my very compatible ( & totally peaceful) pair of Lorteti. What I would like to know is if anyone has found any magic spawning triggers for carinotetradon aside from the usual massive, cooler water changes. Raising temp, etc. They are getting mostly live food = daphnia, snails, immature clams & worms. The male occasionly displays to his mate but generally they each do their own thing. I realize that the best way to get fish to spawn is to convince that you don't care if they do or not, but any other possible suggestions or tricks that you may have stumbled upon would be welcomed.

[welcome]
Mine spawned regularly for about a month & I didn't do anything differently than the 50% weekly water changes with 78 degree water, like all my other tanks. After spawning with her mate 3x, she killed him!

She laid her eggs in a fine, plastic plant.

Welcome to another old fogey - I am one myself.

We do not discuss how I mishandled my first GSPs in the early 60's. They were snail-disposal devices for excess from my Cichlid fry grow-out tanks.

Unfortunately, I can't offer any other answers to your question.

Was there a male involved in these proceedings or was it a solo effort?

Yes, there was a male & they did spawn 3x... before she killed him. :( She had previously killed her 2 competing females housed with them.
