So, this Congo Puffer seems pretty chill, 3" is about the size I wanted, and I do like the GSP but need a fresh water fish...

Any tips better than "it looks like a club" for making sure which is which?

That is the absolutely #1 worst site ever created for pufferfish & hasn't been updated in over 12 years! Go look at the real pic of the fluviatilis in the Pufferpedia.

Wow what a terrible site...aren't those all GSP's?

Fair, but there are lots of sites that mention confusion over those puffers, that just happened to be the one that was the most straight forward and not a wall of text... I guess there are lots of puffers which are hard to find images and/or information about though.

Those photos are all of Green Spotted puffers, and I don't think T schoutedeni (my dream puffer) looks anything like a GSP! Fluviatilis (Ceylon puffer) looks totally different because of the bands across the back ... so I don't see how one could get that mixed up with a GSP.

I'd like to know who put that together, they need to go back to the drawing board and start again.

Trust me bibbles, you can do better than that. The information they give is very misleading. The best reference you can get on puffers is the Aqualog book on puffers, it shows most of them with real pictures and gives excellent information.

That site has always been a hazard for the novice puffer-keeper trying to get decent and helpful information. It is the very worst, uses pirated photos to show its imagination working overtime. Do not accept anything said there - if it happens to be right, you need to confirm that from folks who actually know what they are doing, the creator(s) of that site did not. It is an embarrassment.

Ok, I did a lot more looking around, but I'm still not really finding much on T schoutedeni (the other two worked out), either it comes up in like, forums which are in a language I don't speak or on terrible sites that say F8s get to be 8+ inches... in fact, there is so little information that THIS page is on the first page of a Google search...

Maybe I'm just not looking for the right things, or perhaps in the wrong places...

You'll never find one FS, so stop looking! They haven't been available in the aquarium trade in over 20 years.

Get yourself an Aqualog book on puffers, they have pictures of all sorts of puffers in there. One of the best reference books on puffers that's available, in my opinion.
