I came across 1 today and the owner wants $100 for it. Also I know they need a sand substrate but I have not owned any of the target species. What are the best foods for them I was thinking dethawed silversides and shrimp but I've read about a lot of people having trouble getting them to eat snails and clams so what foods do you use to help trim their beak. Lastly is $100 about right or is it highway robbery, I really don't know regarding this species.

Miurus's dont really have a problem with their teeth overgrowing..i dont know any Miurus owners who can get thiers to eat snails nor myself lol
i feed mine silver sides,bloodworms,earthworms,scallops,headon raw shrimp...mine wont eat mussells or cockles..bare in mind most lurkers take alot of patience to train them to eat non live food.

im not sure if the price is reasonable as im in the uk but i do know they are quite rare to find but if you do get it i doubt you will regret it they are awesome puffers which heaps of personality..good luck

I've read that article before but thank you. I think I'm going to get this guy, I've got an empty 40 gallon breeder tank I think he would be happy in. I didn't ask the owner what he's eating I'll do that today. I'm still curious as to the going price on 1 of these right now

That's really a ton of $$$ for a miurus. Especially not a red one. But if you can afford it& that's what you really want, it might be worth buying.

by "target species" i assume you mean a T. Miurus (Congo Puffer) that you have your sights set on, and not a target species of puffer?
that said, here in so. cal., they are usally priced in the 50-70 dollar range
crickets are a big favorite! snails are out, at least as far as "ollie" is concerned!
as doraemon mentioned, teeth don't seem to be an issue (nice feature!)
$100 seems a bit steep, but if it's a really nice one..............

100 dollars sounded steep but I wasn't sure. Thanks everyone I really listen to all the information I am givin. The guy I've been talking with has him in a 20 long barebottom so while the price is steep I think I'm gonna go ahead and buy him. Who knows maybe he'll have a ton of personality when he's settled in, that's really my main concern along with health. I can't seem to upload the pics from my phone but to me he looks very interesting. Thanks for the schoolin on target species I've got a lot to learn and every little bit helps. (And no I'm pretty much broke I just count pennies extremely well till fish are involved)

Offer $80. If he says no then be prepared to leave, perhaps he'll come down in price then. If not you can go back and offer $100.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna post some pics shortly after I get him, I also bought a 1 inch Fahaka about a week ago that I gotta show too. As far as going lower on the price the owner seems to be a bit of a %$#@!!!!! Pufferpunk what can I say I'm a simple man with simple pleasures

The Grey Marbled is not the standard Miurus so the price may be reflecting that. I'm jealous, I've always wanted one but they're too hard to find by me.

Shoot, like a lot of the rest of you, I'd be happy to find one period! I would hate to shell out that much for a fish, though, but who knows it might be the last time I have the opportunity to get one.

I guess a lot of why they're hard to find is because it's not a real safe to travel in areas where they come from, not sure though but I bet it has something to do with it.

Well I'm the proud pappy of a baby 2 inch Miurus. After all the back n forth I paid $75. I don't know why but the owner asked what I was putting him in I told him a 40 breeder with lots of sand. He told me sand was a bad idea because they hide a lot. Well duh.... Anyway I got him and he is beatin up pretty bad half of his fin is missing the shipping package was a joke and to top it off he is just a regular Miurus but I'm not mad at all he's alive and he's mine I'll post some pics later because he was buried in about 10 minutes from time of acclimation and I don't blame him for it
