Just wondering

I don't think I've ever seen one for sale in the UK. Waspish and sociable says the PP - could they be kept in small groups or better alone?

It's next on my list .... I could have had one back in summer, but already thought I had one, only I was mistaken, as it turned out that the puffer I thought was a Fang's is actually another Abei. So looks like I will have to wait until this coming summer to try again. They aren't very expensive either.

They had 3 of them at my LFS. 1 very beaten up was left. It died too. Keep alone.

I'd read they were slightly aggressive Very pretty though, not too big, fw and have attitude. Sounds good to me - I'll see if lfs can order me one.

BTW - Should that read aggressive and unsociable in the 'pedia? Unless I misread it of course.

You probably won't be able to get any until summer or warmer weather Mr Soggy. The guy that I talk to (who had them back in August) is a manager at Maidenhead in Hull, and he says they can only get ahold of them when it's warmer months, as that's when they are taken from the wild. But who knows, you might have better luck than me.

Going on a road trip to Cornwall in July - might be able to pick one up on the way back somewhere

I believe that should read aggressive to tankmates, socialble to humans.. if that makes sense? I think they are one of the more interactive puffers, but will kill tankmates. I've never kept one though.

if I can find one it would be kept as a single specimen, tank sized for life. I need to do some more reading on the 'target puffer' group - have a look a Abei's too. They may be easier to find.

Some of these target puffers seem quite managable but some seem quite large, I'll have to be careful.

Hey Mr Soggy .... I've got a lovely Abei that's for sale, Hymie. He's really a nice puffer, but I already have another Abei, so thought if I could sell him then I could free up a tank for the Fang's that I'd like to get eventually.

That might work, if you don't find a suitable buyer until the summer when the 'new' puffs might be available. I don't think I can persuade my wife for the £80 or so diesel before then but if we were coming back from Cornwall in July then this could be possible. Or if there is anything interesting here i could bring on the way down.

There is one of those, a baby, in my lfs. Also a 1" red tail catfish. I'm resisting both so far!

Well it's very possible that I may still have the Abei come summer, you never know. I've got an advert on Aquarist-Classifieds, but the only people that have contacted me about it have no clue whatsoever about puffers, and I won't let him go to just anyone.

Not sure if you were asking about my avatar, but mine is of my Palembang "Tooie". I've got a whole file of those avatars of different puffers. I change mine every so often to keep it interesting.

Nope I don't have any marine fish and don't plan on having any, though they are beautiful.
