I am not new to puffers or to salt water but I got out of the hobby when my 55 gallon tank busted and killed my 2 puffers. I have had a lot of luck with puffers and I want a Valentini they have always been my favorite but I could never find one. Now I have a 29 gallon tank that is just sitting there so I thought I would try my hand at salt water again. I was just wondering is a 29 gallon good for one or two of these guys? Also I hate the live rock and that is what busted my last tank so I want to get away with the least amount of live rock so what is best for a 29 gallon. I am just getting ideas together I'm not sure I am going to do salt water again I was heart broken when I lost my porc and my golden dog face, but I really like these guys and I just want some advice.

Hi & welcome back! There is no way LR busted your tank, there must have been a flaw in it previously. I have ~250-300lbs of LR in my 90g. LR is the best filtration you can use for a SW tank. About 30lbs will be good in there & 1" of sand. I would stick with a single valentini in a 29g.

The live rock fell and caused it all to fall in a short period of time and cause the bottom to spider. I was out of town and was having someone watch the tank and they didnt see it and when I came back the tank was half empty and cold as ice. I just don't think live rock is very pretty thats why I don't really like it. Is a 29 gallon ok for one of these puffers because I had a 20 gallon and it was very hard to care for it kept crashing and killing my fish. Is there any other fish that I can keep with a valentini?

You might be able to keep a few smaller species of tank mates with him but a 29g is not very large. Maybe some clown gobies would be nice.

PP what do you feed all those coral!?

Lots of stuff: DT's Phytoplankron, Rod's Food, Cyclopeeze, Coral Frenzy, Reef Roids & a couple of other powdered foods. I also soak meaty foods like bloodworms & mysis shrimp overnight, in Selcon & Vita-Chem, before mixing in the "brew". I turn off all the flow & spot-feed everything with a mouth with a turkey baster. Leave the flow off for about 2 hours, until the haze clears & then keep the skimmer off overnight (no need to "feed" my skimmer).

Your tank is beautiful!!! I wish I could afford a bigger tank but when I had the 55 it cost me so much it almost made me sick. But it was worth it, I would like to have a 125 but I can find one that someone is getting rid of. I miss my saltwater puffers and freshwater puffers just arent as fun Its not something that I am doing right this second I have to get ready for it and save up some money. Also are there any good reliable places to get fresh and salt water puffers online?

Shipping fish is so ungodly expensive!

I dont have too many good places around me that sell fish and and they dont sell odd fish as people like to call puffers. Well I guess I will just try and find my puffers somewhere around here, thanks
