What species is a "Jewel" puffer? How large is the tank? It really isn't recommended to keep puffers together. I think have the puffer as the centerpiece & then add interesting, colorful, fast-moving tank mates to the mix.

Just realised the Porcupine puffer will grow too big for my 4x2x2 tank.
Thanks anyway.

Really glad you asked! How about one of the sharpnosed species?

Got a 80G to house a Dogfaced juvie for the time being. Fish only. Got plans for bigger tanks.
Looking for some of those that you described but have no idea what they would be as I'm new to saltwater.

She's referring to the various tobies, you can find them in the Pufferpedia (look under the "learn" tab up top)

Actually I was referring to the DF, which is why when a new topic is started, it should be in a new thread or things get confusing.

LOL well, you recommended "sharpnose species" and he said he didn't know what you were referring to above.. I assumed he meant your reference to the sharpnoses, since he obviously knows what a dogface is.

I was actually asking what interesting, colourful, faster moving "dither fishes" were for a DF.

No kidding!
Well, in an 80, nothing. You'll need a much larger tank before you can consider tankmates.
As far as "dither fish", I haven't had a ton of experience with dogfaces but if they are anything like my saltwater burr, having other fish in the tank darting around will only make them more nervous, not more confidant. About the only smaller, brightly colored saltwater fish I can think of off the top of my head, that swim out in the open are damsels and chromides.. but I can't say if either would be a good mix, damsels can be nasty little things.

A small school of small anthias would work well too. Chances are if the fish are a lot smaller than the puffer he'd eat them.
