I was wondering is there a difference in the instant ocean salt and real ocean water? I work on a boat and have been toying with the idea of bringing water home with me is this a bad idea?

Yes, I would. I will post a quote that I found.
If you have access to clean ocean water (NSR or Natural Sea Water) to put in your saltwater aquarium, by all means use it. Dissolved trace minerals and salinity may vary slightly by area, but since natural sea water is what marine animals live in, it can often be a better source than using fresh tap water and a commercial salt mix to make up solutions, which can be time consuming and costly.

Great ! Since I have an unlimited amount out here that sounds like a cheap easy thing for me. Do I need to treat it though? I have a 29 gal tank so how much a week sould i change at a time? I would think to take it kinda slow on the switch right?

What's in your tank? What SG? Test the SG of the ocean water.

I would be careful and find out what the local water quality is like before you put it in your tank. Some people have really good water, but others have nasty stuff that I wouldn't swim in, much less put in my tank.
