worms in tank

ok i cleaned out one of my tanks that just had some water and sand sitting in it today and i look in there and there are little redish brown worms swimming around. they swim kinda like an eel and bury themselves in the sand when the light is on. any idea what they are? there not very big probably a half an inch. they look like bristle worms without the bristle just round in appearance.

It sounds similar to mosquito larvae to me, but that's just a guess on my part. They require still standing water, and they don't need much water to develop in.

Could be nematodes, which are not really anything to be worried about...google them and see if you can find a pic that matches what you're seeing.

There are all sorts of worms that live in live sand. Those are why you don't have to stir it.
