It says that the males will have red stomach. Hers is a beautiful white. She's in the tank now, she's exploring. I'm in love.

What size tank is she in? Can you get a pic of the whole tank?

I have both females (3) and a male (1) lorteti, so if you need any info, just ask. The male has a lovely blue band on his tail, really impressive. He's one of my favourite redeyes.

She's in a 30 gallon. All by her lonesome. Did a test and results came..

I went to my LFS expecting to order an irrubesco. He asked for a common name, so I told him red-eye red tail puffer, he said that they had some right over there. They weren't irrebesco, but they were labeled "red-eye lorteti". I fell in love. I bought the healthiest one for $13 (about 9 pounds). I was so excited I forgot to get the cherry shrimp.

To Schismy007: Do the males also have a red belly? That's what I heard... Is the band horizontal or vertical? Is it thick? From what I can tell there is no one her.

It's only the males that have a red belly. But it's not certain they have it when you find them in the LFS. They don't have it when they are young. When I bought my lorteti pair, the male looked like an irrubesco, except that he didn't have any red in his tail. But he changed very much as he grew. No he looks nothing like an irrubesco anymore.

It seems like there's a lot of lortetis in the trade now. I feel like I see them everywhere I look.

That would be a bad idea. Lortetis are very aggressive.

The red comes out when they are ready to breed. Gets all puffed out too.

The blue band on the tail is only on the male and it's a vertical band, very pretty. That's how I can tell who I'm looking at quickly. I just look at their tails. I don't see alot of aggression with my lorteti, but then again, they don't have alot of contact with the other puffers because of all the plants I have in the tank, which I think, keeps them all peaceful towards each other. But definitely a nice puffer.

Absolutely not! She's fiesty, that's for sure, she killed a corydora (I had my cories in there until she killed one, so I moved them out.) I've got a problem though. Should I start it here or make a new post in the Hospital Forum?

Ugh. I'm worried. All she's done for 2 days is glass pace. I offered her bloodworms and snails, she didn't notice either, she was so into the glass pacing. The only time I've seen her not glass pace is when I found her in her pit. Is she just scared? Or not happy? Water params are fine. (results are above) What do I do?

Is that the only pit she has dug? What kind of substrate did they have in her tank at the LFS? What sort of decor is in the tank now?

It just may take some for her to settle in.

You sound very excited to have her and whenever I am reading a thread and I come across a post you have made, they always strike me as knowledgeable and well thought out. You have compassion and smarts. I don't think Peaches could have a better owner.

Tell me about the tank you have her in John. Do you have plants in there? I've always kept mine in a tank that's got lots of plants, almost jungle-like because I have found that they enjoy hanging out in the plants, literally in the plants. I have shown a flashlight on mine at night and I can see them down in the Java fern, or sitting on a leaf, or down in the plant towards the bottom. They love to be in and around plants, it gives them a secure feeling. They don't like to be exposed. So I would say maybe you need to work on getting more plants for her. There's plenty of plants that don't require much upkeep to have them looking nice.

I also feel that redeyes are a bit social, although I know some people will disagree with me on this ... but I think mine actually enjoy the company of others. Any chance you can get your girlie a boyfriend? Or even another girlie? Might be things to think about. And no, you should not need sand. In fact, I've never seen any of mine digging, but she might be doing that if she feels too exposed, and that's why I said that maybe you need to work on getting more plants, so she has more cover.
