So I'm going to do a fishless cycle and articles say I shoul use fish food to just build up ammonia in the middle. But, I have a few questions. If I use clear ammonia do I still have to add in fish food? And for much ammonia should i add for 30 gal? Also what fish food should i use and how much? Thank you everyone.

Don't use flake food. It makes the biggest, nastiest mess you'll ever see in your life.

Oh, using raw shrimp will be smellier than the fish food ;)

You'd have to check the library here, it will tell you how to measure for ammonia, you'll have to add enough to raise it to a certain level, which I can't remember off the top of my head. So you'll need an ammonia test kit (a few bucks) and some ammonia.. now, when we say "pure" we don't mean chemistry lab pure, we just mean the kind you can find in the cleaning aisle that does NOT have added perfumes or stuff to make it foam up. Shake the bottle, if it foams up, you don't want it. Generally the most generic, cheap stuff is what you are looking for.

*nods agreement* The only ingredients listed should be ammonia and water. If they're not listed, then call the manufacterers.

Just go to the water/filtration category. It'll be there.
