Got a new powerhead, have some newb questions.

Well, I have had my green spotted puffers for about two weeks and since they are my first higher maintenence fish I am pretty worried about water condition.
I have a 120gph whisper filter that sits on the rim of the tank and two under gravel filter towers, each attached to a 4/5 watt pump.
In the past two weeks they are much more active than when I bought them and much healthier looking, colors are brighter and fins are grown back.
even though nitrate and other contaminant levels read 0 I know this may not be enough of a system for these messy fish.
I just got a Maxi jet 1200 powerhead because I wanted something to aid with water cleaning and changes. Can someone explain to me the best way to utizlize this for filtration?

also I am not even sure I have my UGF set up right.
Could someone look at some pics for me and let me know?
Line connected to stone at the bottom of the tube
Top portion and some curious puffers
If someone could let me know if that looks right it would be great

Personally I'd ditch the UGF. They are nothing but nitrate producers and waste traps. There are some people that have worked with reverse flow UGF with success but I don't know the details, someone else will have to direct you to those. What size tank are you trying to filter?

Yeah , it is just what I had on hand from years of corydora and I knew that every extra day the puffs were at wal mart was going to really negatively effect them, so I had to act fast. Didnt want to buy another filter without researching and end up with the wrong one, so I figured the ugf and topmount would last till I did. Water is clear and free of contaimenents but I would like at least 200GPH. It is a 34 gallon tank
I am gonna pull them up and out once I get it. I just want to find a filter that will work for under 50 bucks because I will be switching to a 100 gallon tank shortly.
I got a used 100 gallon today, I have to reseal it and build a stand

Hey, I see you have dragon gobies. I want to get one for my 34 gallon once my 100 gallon is setup. How hard are they to take care of?
