To treat or not to treat??

Hi. I've already treated my DP's for IP's through food, but nothing happened. They've never had white poop and always have dark, almost black poop. The reason why I'm still wondering if they have IP's is because I feed them every day but they never get fat like the ones at the LFS. Should I treat them again?

And should I treat pond snails? I'm going to switch the gravel in my 5 gallon with my betta into sand. I've got MTS's and pond snails, should I treat them too? Oh, and do MTS's only come out at night, because they're all not moving around much?

How much do you feed the DPs?

MTSs rarely come out during the day.

I would think that treating snails for IPs would kill them.

Yes, treating the snails would kill them.

If their poop is dark, they are probably okay.. can you get a picture of them so we can see how "skinny" they are?

Really? I've treated the apple snails and they are still living. Its the Jungle Labs Fizz Tabs, it says its safe for snails (it doesn't say that actually, but it doesn't say that its harmful to them.) It says its only harmful to crustaceans.

The pic? Oh man, that would be hard. I'll look on the web for some skinny DP's. Or maybe just odd shaped DP's?

Oh, and I feed them every day until their stomachs looks like a bluberry.

About the MTS's, they had their first batch of babies!! I fed a couple super small ones to the puffer and they ate just fine. I'm going to save the rest to grow. And yesterday I went canoeing in the river and I caught two 1" clams!! Would they be cool in my betta tank? I'm planning on turning my gravel in the 5 gallon into sand.

Those clams would likely not survive outside of their natural setting, due to their food and environment requirements. (They're filter feeders, and they probably need very clean and cool water with good flow.) More importantly, if you introduce them into your tank, you could be bringing in pathogens of some sort that might cause a lot of problems.

Clean water? They're in the muddiest water I've ever seen! I stepped on them, that's how I found them!!

Clean in the sense of no toxins (ammonia, nitrites, etc.) present, not in the sense of no suspended particles. I don't know about freshwater clams, but in the saltwater world, they're one of the harder things to keep and even many experienced reef aquarists consider them a challenge.
