Does anyone have any information or pictures of this fish? Also, does anyone know where you can purchase one. It is supposedly a freshwater specie that is covered in spines.

Extremely rare. I don't think anyone here has seen one.

Good luck finding one--it would be extremely expensive if you do. Doubt anyone that is selling it as such, as it is probably a T nigroviridis.

It looks veeerryy much like T nigroviridis. If you like the Schoutedeni, you'll like that too. Only real difference is the spines on T.Schoutedeni's belly.

Schout. may resemble the nig. but is FW, more mild-mannered & only grows to around 1/2 the size.

Well, I had one about the time my son was born (over 30 years ago). All but identical to GSP grossly, other than the visible spines and adult size. I don't think that mine was nearly as active either, but that could be individual difference.

Very true, puffers are surely individuals. Have you thought of maybe getting a GSP? They're great pets.

The only picture I have seen is in Dr. Eberts book (review) about Pufferfish.

Any other pictures? There just doesn't seem to be any information about this fish. Can anybodies LFS get these in?

Nobody that I know has seen any in this country (USA) in at least 20 years, maybe longer.
