Hi is this a cross river puffer or not? I am talking to the owner about buying it but I am not sure if it is a cross river. It was bought from a very reputable importer who is probably one of the only guy's to bring them in. This fish is still young maybe 5''-6'' but that is a guess.

I would venture a guess that it is a Cross River puffer, pustulatus. That would be a very interesting fish to have indeed.

Nope, it's a "Pustulaka" or "Fahakalatus", a cross between cross river & fahaka.

Just because it is not fully spotted?

I see one that is the same fish in all but one pic. The other does not look like it is fully spotted.

What is the size of teh one that is showing all those spots?

Is there any other pics of these puffers? I have seen people post pics on other sites showing the progress of these fish and the spots formed more and more as the fish grew.

It it very obvious to me that on the back of your fish there will never be the seperate spots you see in other pics of the pustulatus.

The first link where pufferpunk say's it is a cross river is from the same guy who I am talking to about buying the fish It is not the same fish. He bought this one from the same supplier he bought his larger one from the one you see that is in the link. Could it just be that the fish is not a high grade like the others you see?

Being a fakulatus would pretty much mean being a low grade. It's still probable that it;s spots could dissapear and become stripes like many young fahakas.
It could very well stay an awesome looking fish for its life too, but it's not a highquality/purebred (whichever you prefer) pustulatus.

Is the fish you posted a pic of, the exact same fish the seller is offering to you?
