Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of adding a Green spotted puffer to my SnowFlake eel's tank, Someone formerly told me that GSP can be very vicious and eat the eyes of other fish, the eel is moderately aggressive(keeps to himself unless provoked),How aggressive is the GSP? The snowflake eel is primarily a crustacean eater too, but I thought that the GSP would make a good addition because they grow to a moderate size, and are generally fast moving. Do you guys think it might work?

Ah Yes, thanks for reminding me Corvus, I remember when researching the snowflake moray that they are sexually dimorphic ,and that they are more adapted to a piscivorious diet in their later days. I've seen many other Puffer/Eel combos,but it would seem that the vast majority of the Marine puffers grow to be quite large,and thus adding a great deal more of bio load to the already heavy bio-load of the Eel's tank. Would there be any smaller puffers under 10-12" that would be suitable for the situation?

Well, it may work to keep a E. nebulosa with a T. nigroviridis or a T. fluviatilis (the risk of the latter being eaten likely smaller), but I definitely would not try it with my own puffers/snowflake eel. There are smaller marine puffers in trade such as tobies, but they might get the same problems. With larger puffers it can be the complete opposite: a puffer permanently biting the fins and tail of the moray.

A good combination might be small puffers and a Zebra moray (G. zebra), which indeed is 99% fish-safe.

The problem that keeps occurring to me is, that many of the resource sites list the adult size of these eels quite differently, making it hard to judge the appropriate tank size, some sites say that the Zebra will grow up to 5' in length, if that is true I definitely don't have a tank to accommodate such a beast, where others say that they grow to 2-3'. Do you know what the true adult size of the Zebra is? If it only grew to 2-3' that would definitely be an option, as I have a tank that can handle the additional bio-load of the possible puffer(s) then.

3 feet ist the maximum confirmed size of the Zebra moray. Anything larger is lacking definite proof. They may appear larger behind thick aquarium glasses of public zoos or diving goggles, but when they are measured they "only" reach 100 cm maximum, with most aquarium specimens staying around 80-85 cm (one inch is 2.54 cm).
