so i got a new porcupine puffer yesterday (im going to be posting up some pics soon)

and hes swimmin right?? but he tends to be favoring the back corner in the tank and when i got home from work today thats where he was, belly on the sand, but then he started swimming again and now hes back in the corner =/

he also was opening hes mouth RELE wide for a couple moments and idk what it is? if it is anything

i have a few rocks in there right now, but even i think it looks kinda boring, could it be that hes just bored?

im not 100% sure on my ammonia nitrite nitrate, but i just added 120g worth of bacteria for my 100g tank last night so coild it be that the cycles not done yet?

Was your rock live? Was it wet and fresh out of a tank?

What brand of bacteria did you get?

You really should have made 100% sure that your cycle was done before adding the porc.

Good, good, good. That's all in order. :D

Now, the likelihood is that your fish is just nervous and stressed from the move, and that he'll liven up in good time, especially if you add more live rock and decorations for him to hide in and explore.

He's probably fine, swimming and resting is fairly normal. What's your PH. I've noticed in low PH they are far less active.

And that thing that he's doing with his mouth is considered yawning. It's nothin to worry about.

How are you keeping a fish as special as a porc w/o test kits? Please go out tomorrow & get some. Is that Dr Tim's for SW?

I would have added liquid ammonia for a few days, not fish. But you're right, some kind of ammonia source (such as a fish!) needs to be added to keep the bacteria from dying.

soo tru, a lot of people dont get that either, i know where i work, i could spend 20 min. easily explaining the nitrogen cycle to someone that doesnt know it and even like with adding too many fish at one time can spike the ammonia, i tell this to them and they still walk away with like 15+ fish some people are just rele stubborn i guess =/
