Not sure if it will be OK. I use a refractometer at work for measuring the specific gravity of urine (I am a vet nurse!) & it is completely different to the salinity refractometer that I have for my tank. No doubt tho, that with a few calculations & the correct calibration, that it could be used. Wait & see when you get it - if no good, re-sell it!!

I'm hesitant to say yes it will work because it's calibration is in Brix %. Also looks like it lacks automatic temperature control/correction. There is a way to convert Brix to SG, I'll see if I can figure it out....no guarantee. If not you can always re-sell it as these are not cheap refractometers, I feel you got a awesome price on it and could possibly make money on re-sale.

If it doesn't measure SG and you can't use it, this is the one I currently own and I can speak for it's surprisingly good quality for its price.

I think I may talk to the seller as I feel uneasy having one that isnt just a basic and really would have one that someone else can explain to me easily! I havent paid yet as doing so friday, I have a good feedback over the years and hope the seller will be understanding. I dont know how I missed that ebay link above Dadof4 unless they are based on ebay.com and not uk! That seems a really good price to ship to UK if so!

p.s. is it ok coming from Hong Kong? I am only a little nervous as the two other items I ever bought on Ebay from there, the first the company didnt bother to send the item took peoples money then ran off into the night and this was before Paypal Protection was good and had to have a certain amount to claim back and the second was a game which was reassured top notch and it came to me in absolute pieces, they never replaced and only got half my money back. I know I shouldnt generalise but had much more success with purchases in UK! Though they do go very wrong sometimes.

Have been lucky she has unsold me if that makes sense, I have gone buy it now on the recommended above, havd been chatting via email about delivery and concerns and it seems a lot better than what I have expereienced in the past. So fingers all crossed, it will mean the puffs are in fresh for another most probable 1-2 weeks, should I bother to get anything else in meantime for the GSPs or will they be ok for the moment? I will most likely be getting the salt and powerhead, spare heater and tub for mixinig this weekedn if can get the lift.

I found that one listed on Ebay.com.uk. I have ordered from Hong Kong before and have had good experience, just a little long in the shipping area. When I convert that price to USD it comes out to about the same that I paid for mine. Not super high quality but decent quality none the less.

I'd go with new, you have warranty and know exactly what you're getting. This isn't an item that might harbor any flaws...
