Snails Exploded!

Okay, not literally.

I have a 5.5 gallon retangular tank that I've decided was my feeder tank. I keep ghost shrimp, blood worms and snails in it. Since I started keeping the worms in there, their numbers don't seem to go down at all. The snails, I'd been feeding to my puffers, but this last time I bought some, I just left them in the tank. I had posted about them breeding a while ago. Well now those eggs are little snails- some not as tiny- and all over! There are even NEW eggs! It definitely looks like I've had a population explosion of snails. Now to just wait for them to get bigger so they have crunchy shells.

There is one really big one- for this type of snail anyway- and I guess it is the mother. Its great to look in and see my swarm of snails. I keep them lightly salted, ironically. They seem to like it better. And their tank is usually around 75 F. They seem to like it cool.

i didnt know they liked cool water. I'm trying to breed them too, and i already see one gellsac with dots in it. I have a few more eggsacs in another container that seem to be doing great, they are already soo big in the sacs, that it looks like they should be comming out soon. I guess when the snails lay them, the eggs like a nice, humid environment, but mine arent really in a humid environment and they are doing good. I usually keep my breeding tank water at 75-80, but its mostly 80.

Well my tank is at 80 today. They're still happy.

There are egg sacs all over in my tank this week. More each day, it seems. And snails galore. I just feed them algea wafers. I broke down and gave a few of the bigger ones to my F8. ow that they're breeding so well, I hate to sacrifice them to the puffers.

Nice to be able to just reach in there and get one, rather than go to the lfs.
