GREAT SITE !!! so much information on all of the puffers. I just bought my first puffer well besides the 5 pea- size puffers that never get any bigger. need to know some info on those little puffers.

But the reason posting this post is that I just picked up a Pig- nose puffer and have read the info on these kinds. He is about 4 inches and is in a split 55 gallon. i only have the one filter and hope it will be enough. on the other side is a solo fish also. the filter is a backpack, so how often should I change the media? Its just a cheap filter but has done the job, but know that there is a second fish in the tank just want to make sure its enough filtration. Does the divider affect the filtration? its a piece of plexi glass with a million little holes in it.

Also, When should be the first time I feed him? ... he has only been in the new tank for a bout 2 hours.

sorry for the new-b-ness but Iam new to puffers... any info on this breed would be helpful... Thanks

N.P.

Go to:

Click on Tetraodon suvatti from the left-hand list. That should be your fish. Basic care is given in the write-up. Come back with any questions after that.

I do not normally feed fish the first day in my tanks.

Generally puffers are very messy fish and require more than average filtration and more than average water partials. I do not use HOBs so cannot give detailed suggestions on cleaning intervals, someone else will have to chime in on that.

Dividers usually result in poor filtration and current flow on the opposite side of the divider from the filter mounting. If that is where the puffer is, you should get another filter. If it is the other fish, it would depend on the fish, but I would still add filtration.
