Size of figure 8 puffer

Hi guys!
I haven't been here in a loooong time. How's everyone doing?
A friend of mine asked me what is the max size of a figure 8 puffer and what size of tank does he need to get for each fish?

About 3" is normal size. A 15 US gallon is an ideal home for a singleton.

They can be housed together w/an extra 10g for each additional F8.

Check your math - 15 + 10 = 25.
And larger footprints are better than taller, much better. From the standard glass tank sizes, a 29 is fine, a 30-long (3' rather tha 30") would be better. If you go to 33XL (48x13x12", LDH), you can do three - this I have done - the extra footprint compensates for the small cheat on the water volume.

I have a single F8 in a 30g long and no intention of adding another. When I bought him, he was about 1" and the only perfect specimen in the tank. I watched him bully both larger F8s and larger GSPs (I convinced the manager to keep these separate in the future). The other fish were in terrible shape, with many bite wounds.Some GSPs were so damaged as to be near death. Perhaps this behavior was an artifact of the overcrowding, but I don't think a fish is happier when you add an intruder to his territory. And I enjoy watching my 1 very dominant F8 in a tank that is just a bit larger than the bare minimum necessary.

Puffers are one of a few fish that can be so entertaining when kept singly. I'd take one interactive, interesting puffer over a tank of unresponsive fish any day.

I like watching Robert and Mags together...they do seem to interact in that they'll do the up and down dance together, take turns at shellfish, and take turns at napping in the log...I've not seen any aggression in 18 months now...they even sleep close to each other.
Obviously, I've totally lucked out with them..but I've still got that spare tank and equipment......I didn't know any better when I got them, and it could've turned out very differently.

I like how porky and piglet the GSP's are together too. I just meant that they're not boring alone
