Won't eat snails?

Hi!
I'm new to the forum and lurked here a little before i recently got my first figure 8 puffer a few weeks ago.
His new home is 48 litre tank and he's the most curious thing! My dad has kept tropical fish for a number of years, including F8s and GSPs an I've loved them ever since.
I've been feeding him on bloodworm, prawn and muscle meat so far and at the weekend got some small snails for him to keep his beak down. Only problem is he sniff them and swims off - i dont think eh even realisse its food. I've tried to get him interested by holding the snail on the surface and wiggling it around which he takes notice of for a little while, but the he gets bored.
what else can i do to get him to eat them? i know how important they are for his diet, i thought he would go mad for them straight away. I dropped 2 small ones in and i cant find them now, not sure if thst because he ate them or because they burried themselves into the gravel?
Hopefuly someone has some advice for me
Sarah
