Hi, I'm getting a new tank for my juvenile GSP. He's going from a 10 gallon into a 50 gallon. For my setup, I would like to do a river tank display. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with GSPs and strong currents similar to the current in the tank at:http://www.loaches.com/articles/a-river-runs-through-it
My question mainly is, if I provide places where the puffer could escape the current would the puffer most likely enjoy it, or would it put undue stress on the fish?

I have my GSP in full marine conditions with 2 powerheads, a maxijet 900 and another one which is weaker....he avoids them as much as possible...only swims into the current when he gets excited and accidentally goes through it. I am sure he appreciates some of the current, but he stays away from the worst of it....

Most of the puffers I've kept love a lot of current, but GSP's tend to be on the *ahem* more "round" side so they might not be able to handle it as well as some other species.

You'd probably have to play it by ear, but my guess would be as the puffer builds up strength they would get used to the current.. kind of like putting a betta that's lived its life in a cup into a tank with a power filter, at first they can't swim against the current but pretty soon they've muscled up and love it.
