Missing F8

Ok. So 3 days ago I got my first F8 from the LFS. 2 days ago I got my second since the first one looked a little lonely and they were all kept in the same tank at the shop.

They got a feeder fish the first day then a raw shrimp yesterday. They both were very fat and looked full.

This morning there's only 1 F8 in the tank. There's no lid on the tank at the moment because I'm changing lighting systems and I'm in the midst of a DIY cover. My wife and I looked all around the tank but didn't find him on the ground or on the couch. No remains were found in the tank and the other puffer doesn't look all that fat.

Am I missing something or do I just have an F8 that doesn't play well with others? Am I underfeeding them? Should they be eating the whole shrimp or will they just finish off a portion before I take it out of the tank? Did the fish just not like his new home and ran away?

Yikes. F8s are notorious jumpers. How far from the top of the tank was the water level?
Do you have a dog or a cat? How heavily planted is the tank...could he just be hiding very well? Are there any ornaments he could be under?
Hope you find him, but it doesn't sound too good.
Pami.

1/2" of travel distance.
I have 2 dogs but both were locked out of that room during the night.
The tank is only lightly planted, and we looked in the one rock formation that they could get into.

Guess I'll have to take another look around the room but we didn't see him anywhere. I'm going to get a temp cover today then to make sure jumping doesn't happen.

*sigh* I was trying to be a good first time owner.

We all make mistakes but that doesn't makes any of us poor owners. A poor owner, IMO, is someone who knows better and refuses (not forgets) to do what s/he knows is right. You seem to care and want to do things right--making you a good owner in my book so far.

Well I went home to measure the tank to have the plexiglass cover made and checked around one more time... and I found the poor guy stuck between the two back cushions of the couch. *sniff* Poor guy. But hell if I'll let another one jump on me. Lesson learned, to bad it had to be in this way. :(

:( Poor little thing. Sorry to hear about the loss of your puffer.
