Chipped teeth!

ok last night i put a new peice of holey rock into my tank,
i chose this peice from the pet store because it had some
sort of shell fused with it and looked cool. (should have thought about this first)
but this morning when i woke i noticed my puffers mouth
area was reddish colour from an injury. so i scouted the
tank for what could of happened but couldnt see anything,
half hour later i noticed ziggy attack the shell fused
with the new rock and instantly realised what happened
i took it out straight away, but also noticed that i cant
see ziggys top teeth anymore only his bottom ones
i think he has broken them or worn them down heaps
hes still behaving as normal,

i just wanted to know is this likely to kill him?
seeing as puffers teeth constantly grow, how long
will it take them to grow back?

is there anything i need to do!?

cheers Adam

I dont think you need to worry about him mater if he's acting fine, they'll soon grow back

Just keep an eye on the red mark to make sure it doesn't get infected

Keep an extra eye out for water quality while he's healing, and Melafix and/or Pimafix can't hurt.

Great! If it doesn't heal up or gets worse, let us know, but I think he'll be fine. :)

Unless it's a cut I wouldn't worry about anything. Elvis' mouth always gets red around the lips when he eat's mussel's and clams. After a few hours the redness goes away. I would put the rock back in the tank and let him bite on the shell. It's a good thing. It will keep his teeth worn down. Elvis bites on my lr constantly. I always see teeth marks or chunks of rock on the sand bed. It's just what they do. :D

Good to hear that seems ok now :) In situations like this i always add a little aquarium salt as it helps to work as a natural anticeptic :)
