My fahaka puffer has white spot i just wanted to check before treating him that theres nothing in the medicine that can harm him in any way?

FW ich can usually be cured by frequent water changes, raising the water temp and adding aquarium salt, avoiding meds entirely. It does take some patience and dedication, but is better for the fish overall.

Thanks for the help...i have been doing that for the last 2 weeks and if anything it has gotten worse, i already have some treatment in my cabinet left from a while ago, its called w32 white spot terminator, it works very well around 3 doses clears it up perfectly. i have checked ingredients and all it says is machalite green (sorry about spelling)
is this OK to use with my puffer? i want to get it sorted as i don't want her to hurt herself rubbing on things in the tank.

No...no...don't use anything copper based, which malachite green is.
Raise temp and add aquarium salt, and lots of water changes..it's gonna take you about three weeks in all, but copper meds are bad news, as puffs are very sensitive to them.
Read the sticky on FW ich, and give us a daily update.
Maybe add some Melafix to the tank to help soothe her skin, but no copper meds.

Three weeks for a full cure might be setting your hopes a bit high. I would continue treatment (water changes, raised temp and aquarium salt) for at least three weeks after the last spot is gone. Patience and persistence are key to this treatment plan.

Are you 100% sure its whitespot? How long have you had the puffer?
Is he on his own? Where do you think the whitespot has come from?

Glad i asked before using the meds...thanks for the advice!

I shall continue with the higher temp and salt and hope it works,

I assume it is white spot, i cant see anything on her body just her fins have some white speckles on them and she has been rubbing herself alot.

As for where it could have come from, i don't have a clue, we've only had her a couple of months now all i can think of is some plants i added a while ago, but they were added quite a few weeks before i noticed the white spots

Shes 12"...definitely on her own lol

Whitespot would be obvious especiallyon a puffer that size.I don't think a few spots on the fins warrants treatment for ich.By the sounds of it you haven't introduced it either!

Hi

Sorry shes begging for her dinner ATM so she wont stay still to get a pic, there not very noticeable but its the same spots as what my severum had on his fins and the medication cleared it up within a couple of days, which is why i suspected it to be white spot.

(The severum and puffer have never lived together so if it is white spot it wasn't from the severum)

There are just a few little white speckles on all her fins but not her tail and i cant see any on her body ATM but i will keep checking, i will keep using the salt and will get some melafix, see it that helps, i shall try get a photo but i doubt you will be able to see the spots, i will keep you all updated

hey everyone,
i just wanted to know if its possible to get ich or any disease from introducing plants. i had never heard of this before. any info would be greatly appreciated.

It does not live on plant life. Good question though!
