he will have sand very soon, this was the tank and gravel that hes lived in for two years and I dont want to freak him out anymore this week.. ( the ride across town and the changes in temp were enough) This tank is very dirty and I dont think he ever used a gravel vac so let the healing begin I guess!! he already seems very happy with the bump in temp and the 50% better water I added.

his name is troy.. the guy that owned him before me said he almost never moved.. now he swims around alot.. is this nomal? I didnt think so!?!? but he ate the gold fish I was safeing for him and the ghost shrimp too.. Im afraid to feed him more but he seems so happy being fed more then an earth worm a week, which is what he had for the last two years

one more thing.. he keeps jumping out of the water when the lights are out.. is this normal behavior??

and the gold fish was healthy.. I wait a week or two before feeding them to anything

You seem to have a pretty good looking Arrow Head there... although it would seem that you have a fairly active one... wish i could give you more info, but sadly i've never owned an arrow head myself...

So is this a suvatti? And does it have two common names... pignose and arowhead?

I would be sluggish also if I only had one earthworm a week. That's insane! He's probaly thinking wow there's food here! I'm not sure what happened but I want more, more, more!

The jumping at the glass, could that be related to how fast the temp came up? Or, now it knows where the food comes from and has the energy to "Hunt" the surface? Or does he see something up there that is making him want to attack it?

The goldfish feeding controversy strikes again...I know the problems that people associate with feeding live feeder fish but these guys are designed to be ambush piscovores in the wild, it's the nature of the fish. To me feeding a goldfish occasionally is not going to hurt a fish eating fish.....Not as a staple in their diet but as a once in a while treat. It may not be the most healthy thing if you buy them and then feed but if they are quarantined first and fed real high quality food that should mitigate some of the issue. You have to feed the instinct as well as the belly. Think about a good hunting dog. You get a quality hunting dog, one that has an inborn instinct to hunt, and then you keep him as a house pet in an apartment, and don't hunt him at all. What do you think that dog's psychological state is going to be? How do you think that will effect it's life span? I have two beagles and a German Short Hair Pointer that come from field champs and I use them to hunt. I can hunt all fall and winter but, when spring and summer come, I have to stop. These dogs get depressed, big time depressed. I have to "hunt" each one at least one time a week (let them run the woods and chase rabbits and hunt grouse while I take the camera) or they stop eating and get lazy. OK, I'm rambling on here, but the point I'm trying to make is that you need to let them do what comes natural once in a while to have happy animals/fish.
