Hi everyone, i was wondering whether Stars and stripes are known for colour changing when sleeping. A few nights ago mine was at the bottom of the tank and his tail had gone almost white. I thought there was something really wrong with him but when i fed them he returned back to his normal colours and seems fine. its the first time ive seen him do a colour change like that.
This is what he looked like

Elvis is really light during the day when he's active but when he's scared or sleeping he turns a chocolate brown. Maybe yours does the opposite of Elvis.

cool! mine is nomally really dark when hes active, but i have seen him go some really interesting colours when blending in with the rocks. he goes kinda mottled and rock like. I guess he was trying to become the sand!

Annabelle (fahaka) does the same thing. She will be real dark then she will go really light suddenly. I guess all puffer's do that. It's amazing how they can change colors so quickly.

I have noticed with fahakas that when they are hunting they have a very dramatic and quick color change. I call it Kaisers hunt colors. It is very amazing to watch.

My stars and stripes when he sleeps stands straight up and down like a tree trunk sometimes in between rocks and is lighter. It is funny because as he gets bigger he thinks he can get in spots that he used to be able to get in and he hangs out the sides but still gets in there, like "you cant see me, ha ha".

i would guess that they are indeed trying to mimic the sand. when i'm out snorkeling/diving and they are inactive on the sandy bottom, they are really hard to spot.
