for a 65? When I had 21 it was like nothing at all. Also I don't expect all of them to survive the trip and my mom wants some. So I would say more like 80.

Isn't it something like 1 gallon per every inch of fish?

Also would there be any other fish in the tank as well? how long of a tank is it?

no other fish. It's a 65 tall so it is 3 feet long and 18" wide and 22"/ 23" tall

100 MIGHT be pushing it a little. You don't want it so full that they don't have plenty of room to swim. I would say if it was just strictly tetras that get no larger then 1" you could probably put at most 75-80 tetras in there.

If you have plants and decor in there then that number will be reduced pending on how planted or how much decor you have in it.

If it was my tank I would do a planted tank with a carpet of either Babytears or some form of hairgrass and a few rocks or driftwood for the focal point and have about 55-60 tetras in it. :)

Hard to say forsure. Somepeople stick to 1g of water per inch of fish, while others account for the width of the fish as well.

You could always slowly add mroe and more tetras and keep count, until you feel like there is enough in there and also has room to swim and look natural and not like a petco tank. :-p *sorry went there to look for frogs yesterday and felt bad for the overstocked* :(

I know sponge bob but for those people that want to put as many fish as possible thats what80% of the people use as a reference. It can easily be done that way and still not be 100% cluttered. All depends on the fish and environment you use.

Then again most people also dont consider the aggressivness *spelling* of the species they are getting. So some species YES you can go by that rule but it's not recommended and other species aka puffers you would likely be shot if you did that. :)

Yeah I agree, Sorry sponge bob. Didn't mean it to be the rule of thumb for ALL fishes. Probably should have clarified that better the first time. :-/

You may run in to pollution trouble with that many. Is this for your beautiful planted tank? I figure plants to be like putting in rock structure and decrease my water volume as such, just for calculating swim room. I'd think about dropping the number a little to maybe 50-60 in there....I'd love to see it when you get them, I think they are the prettiest fish you can out in a planted tank.

Yeah it is for my planted tank, so I think I will do 65 or 70. I will probably have a couple other fish like some corys or some kind of catfish. Now if I did angel fish would I have to knock it down to like 40 or so? Or would the angel fish eat them?

That rule works for 1" fish only. Keep in mind, there isn't nearly 65g of water in there.

Don't buy them all at once if you do decide on that many. Only buy like ten at a time until it seems full. 100 is probably pushing it.

Unless you add Safestart at the same time as you fully stock that tank, you will have a huge problem on your hands.
