GSP in 5 gallon

My new GSP (1 inch not including tail) is VERY happy in a 5 gallon bow front tank. I have 3 fake plants, a cave, a heater, a very nice filter, and a bubble wand. He eats happily, begs at the food for glass, swims around and plays in the bubbles, and has no problems with tank cleanliness. Is there really ANY need for ONE GSP to be in a 30 gallon tank? I think that rule is crazy, you could put 4 in there and theyd live just fine, ill bet.

You could stunt your GPS, witch is serious, you have to think of how big they will get not how big they are now.
What are your water parameters? You have to think about the bioload also.
And 4 in a 5 gall!

They would fight like crazy.

Picture a Nerf ball in your 5g. That's how big they get!

Yes, you do need them to be in a 30 gallon. With the amount of waste they produce, your bioload and filter will not be able to keep it under control and crash it. Plus, they do get to be the size of a nerf football, and will require a very high brackish to almost marine salinity. They are also VERY aggressive fish, so if you had 4 in a five gallon, they will kill each other.

Move from your current home into a closet somewhere, making sure it's no bigger than 8' by 8'. Plan on living there the rest of your life.
Get the picture?

I think it worked. Especially after reading OP's posts, everything seems to point to wanting to pick a fight...

Agreed... I saw another post where the OP said that 2 F8s and 2 BBGs would be fine and happy in a 15g... There is a listed min. tank size for a reason, it's not just some number they pull out of the air and say 'this sounds good'.

This post on stunting was very informative

What I took away from it was, that given optimum conditions (large enough tank, water quality, etc) our puffers can not only grow to their maximum potential, but live a very long time.
I think your gsp will be able to live in a 5 gallon if you keep up water changes, but may not live more than a couple of years when they can live up to 15 years.
