Hey Guys

Does anyone know if I can get fish deworming medicine in the UK?

Have you used it yourself?

Do you have a favourate?

How much is it and where can I get it from?

ps. Maybe a stupid Q but could I use Dog/Cat dewormer and just soak the Puffers food in that?

I import wormer plus from the UK because it flubendazole based and effective against a VERY wide variety of parasites. You can find it by googling the name, or searching ebay.

Flubendazole is the active ingredient in Flubenvet which is a powered wormer that I use for my chickens. I have no idea what the dosage would be for fish, but you do have to sign a register with your name/address when you buy it, since it's a vet. medicine. The dose for each chicken is tiny (I dip a grape in the powder and feed it to each once a day for a week twice a year, but it's very safe even in larger doses, as long as they don't eat buckets of the stuff) so I expect you'd need even less for a fish (even a big fish). You can buy a small tub from farm suppliers.

Maybe you can find flubendazole in another form, but if not, Flubenvet is a possibility.

I've tried it on my F8 about a month ago now. I'm not sure it worked, but it didn't appear to do any harm either. I added to the tank though (as per the instructions) after removing carbon from the filter. I plan on soaking food in it soon to see if that works as this is what is recomended by many posts on the forum. I think that the effectiveness depends on the type of IP, so it can be a bit hit and miss.

Forms of flubendazole for livestock may contain an ingredient which increases uptake, but also has a negative effect on fish, making their skin more transparent to toxins in the water, I'd probably buy the fish stuff, since it's not expensive.

Figured it was a long shot... I've never had to treat my fish for IPs, fortunately.
