i never realised gsp's were illegal species to sell in Aus... but i must say prices seem quite steep, since porcs + dogfaces in HK cost: USD $7.60 - $20, while takifugu & stars N stripes sell for $3.20... although they are almost always labelled as f/w, same with gsp's + f8's

it sucks!
ive only ever seen 1 milk spotted here... and I gothim straight away
sold as a marine.. guess they can sell it a higher price if sold as marine
and its in low brackish now... doing pretty good still

s
i guess puffers arent in demand in australia.. therefore there is very limited amount of puffers available in the trade
thus allows them to price it a real profitable level for them...
oh well.....

USA
MArine
Porcs- 80-100
S&S- 60
Saddle back toby-35
Blue spotted toby- 40
Brackish
GSP- 13
F8- 13 (5.17 at petco under freshwater. lol)
Fresh
DP- 5-6
Irrubesco- 8-10
Palembang- 60
Fang's- 13
these are just the prices i've seen in person around here (USD). the only reliable species i can find are DPs and GSPs, but there's been a sudden rush of F8s in all the LFS around me but they're being sold as fresh water. my mom got Ra at petco and when i went back they look to have the healthiest puffers out of any of the stores i've been to.

I think the prices may have something to do with the quarantine laws in Australia now that i come to think about it, since in Hong Kong puffers are pretty rare / un-common since most people have community tanks, not to mention that they are only ever sold as fish that help eat snails in planted tanks... at least thats what 99% of the shops in Hong Kong tell people...
But to be quite honest, there is only one shop that specializes in getting species like the Congo, Farhaka and MBU's... normally the rest of the shops just have an abundant of GSP's (sold as F/W), and dwarfs, and from time to time F8's...

From the posts, I think only singapore and hong kong get the puffers cheap. But $200 for a gsp is way overkill.

any type of puffers fresh brackish or marine are (as I read) illegal to be imported in Australia...
so the few that leaks in gets priced pretty darn good!!!!!
the dude who was privately selling it didnt even know what he was selling (the green spotted puffer anyways) .. he was selling it as fresh water as in other countries as well.. he was trying to pass them off as a fahaka haha..
he really had no idea...
yet he was able to get 200 for them... haha
i did see another pignose puffer once ... i believe that was 300? just a very rare occurence that pops up once in a blue moon!!!

I paid $40. USD for my baby fahaka...
It was a little high, but I looked for over a year before finding him so the price was not an issue...
