i personally wouldn't risk it. i saw a palembang kept with the rope fish before and it left that alone, but i came back the next day and the rope fish was gone (didn't look to see if it was just in another tank or not but assumed it was eaten). i could be wrong though. i'd wait for one of the more experienced member sot give you their opinion.

I would think the Palembang would be an easy mouthful for the RTC..
They had a stunning 2 foot Arowana in my local LFS, sharing a tank with an equally stunning 2 foot RTC..
Recently they found the stunning Arowana sticking out of the stunning RTC's mouth
I wouldn't trust them at all.....

my fear is not the RTC eats the Palembang, but the Palembang kills the RTC....most fear is the Palembang eat the polyp....btw the Palembang at LFS is adult, i am considering buy him...

Palembangs stay small so he wouldn't actually eat the other fish.
He would bite them though for sure - I kept a palembang with a Mystus Leucophasis & he bit a lump out of him.
Also tried him with an African cichlid & again he ate half his tail.
I really think the bigger risk is the RTC swallowing him whole..

Too many risks. The Palembang has big, sharp teeth and knows how to use them. Or the RTC could try to swallow it, the puffer inflates, and they both die...

If you want to be safe, you simply have to assume that almost any puffer you put in a tank with other creatures is eventually going to be the only thing still moving around. They are hunting, killing machines...it's just the way they roll.

Not to mention that many of them are highly toxic, and if another fish eats it or takes a bite out of the right parts...it'll be history.

finally last night i put him with electric catfish, polypterus endlicheri, and common pleco...
in the morning i saw the catfish tail has been severed, so i moved him to the pond, the dorsal fin of the pleco too....i just put some feeder fishes since i must go to work, which is quickly being eaten....hope everything is ok when i get back from work....
contrary to what i've read, the palembang is very very active tho....

I posted on the other forum not to feed feeders to your puffer. You really should check the feeding articles here in our Library--especially about using feeders for puffers.
