Ok so I have 4 dwarf puffers right now in my 28 gallon tank (2 of them died : ( ) but theres quite a bit of algae in the tank so i wanted to get some ottos...is that a bad idea? can they co exist with each other?

Yep, otos are one of the best tank mates for DPs

lol im just worried the puffers will pick on them...they're always chasing each other around even though the tank is pretty heavily planted there is still alot of open places i just want the ottos to be safe haha i have ghost shrimp and the puffers ignore them completely so i guess thats good

Otos should do fine.

Otos and dwarf puffers mix very well, but otos do NOT do well in an unstable tank, they are very delicate, health wise.

DId your puffers die recently or was this a while back? I'd hold off on the otos if it was recently.

it was awhile back...probably a couple of weeks after i got them which was about a month ago...the other 4 are very healthy

So you got them a month ago and they died a couple of weeks after that.. I would call "last week" recently LOL

Seriously, its recommended to only add otos to a tank that's been stable at least 6 months.

Question! I ordered otos for my tank, and they're at the pet store already. Should I tell the store that I don't want them???

haha well its been longer then than a couple of weeks lol ive lost track of time i apologize but yeah i need something that is going to clean my algae because its all over my glass and my plants : (

I'd be afraid that if I did that, they'd never special order anything for me again.

I agree with marksrush, they may be a little annoyed if you did that.

They should be fine as long as there is plenty of algae for them to clean up. If there's not, get a bowl of tank water, put in in front of a window and put a rock in it. Put another rock in your tank. Once the rock in the window gets covered in algae, swap it over with the rock in your tank, meaning there's a nice load of algae for the otos to munch at. Then you can just keep swapping them over, giving a good supply of algae for the otos.

Good plan. And I'm getting a few algae pellets too, in case they eat it all too quickly! Thanks.
