Whoa, what a beast! They're such a beautiful puffer, too. :) I sure wish I had the floor support and space for a large enough tank!

Meh, create floor support and who needs a place to sleep anyway? Bedroom=2000gal tank! :yikes:
Beautiful puffers, I aim to own one (or be owned by one) within the next few years.

I've worked out that a 10ft w x 4ft d (front to back) x 3ft h (top to bottom) holds 1077 US Gallons and it weighs 8770 pounds/3978 KG/4.4 tons when full! :yikes:

In the UK I've got a price of £2800 Ouch! (although currently researching different techniques of building a Plywood tank for a fraction of that price)

Think this'll have to go on the ground floor on a concrete block!

What do you think Dadof4?

Well, it depends on if you have a basement or not.....

You've got a basement, you guys in the US are so lucky, it seems that all your houses are not only much bigger for the same price, you also get basements that cover the whole footprint of the house

I'd so love to have a basement and just make half of it a tank!

If you've got this option Dadof4 you should just build a concrete tank!

What's your plan?

Well, I don't take up much space so, I am going to sacrifice half my office and build an in-wall tank using wood. When I shored up my floor to support my 180 gallon I decided to do the entire floor instead of just one area. My basement looks like a steel forest with all the jack posts. The great thing is I ran laminated 2x10's the length of the floor, I cut them myself! A friend has a sawmill and had these extra maple logs sitting there waiting to be cut.

Houses....expensive.....its major giblets......when you look at a house worth 1/2 a million here in LA, you cry and cry and realize your hard earned money is potentially going to go into a home built of cardboard and chopsticks. Which could be done for free under an overpass somewhere.

Anyhoo, back on topic, WOW, what a cool puffer. I too once had aspirations for an Mbu. One day......but the salties first.

I know back when RTR was keeping his, he said you'd need not only a concrete base but an extra thick concrete base to hold up tanks that size. If I remember correctly, he actually put an addition onto his house with an extra thick concrete floor just for his fishroom (mind you, we're talking about a guy who was trying to breed fahakas, that sort of thing!).

For my 180 I had to lay Stainless steel plating across a large area of the concrete to spread put the weight and then put the jack posts up.
