THEY'RE HERE!!!!!

My DPs are here! They're in the tank, and doing fine. They started hunting for snails a minute or two after I put them in! They're 3/4" and SO CUTE!
Params were 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 15 nitrates, with ph still at 8.2. I finally quit messing with the ph; the Kentucky limestone is just too much.
I named the female Thumbelina; I haven't picked a name for the male yet.
I'm picking up my otocincli in a few days, when they come in, and then I'll start deworming. The DPs were only in the central filter water for a couple of hours, so hopefully they didn't have time to pick anything up.
Pics will hopefully happen tomorrow, after I finish my Brit Lit paper.

Yay! I know you'll be a good mommy to them.

Sure wish you could get the pH down a little, but then it sounds like you've been trying. Good luck!

The male has been officially named:
*drumroll please*
James Bond!
My friend told me that James Bond never dies, so hopefully my little fish will take on this particular quality of his namesake. Just as long as he doesn't start shooting at the otos, it'll be fine.

Where did you order them from?
I've had 4 DPs for the past 6 months or so. I just bought an additional one today. =)

Hey Daria
Are there different types of DP's or do they all have those beautiful greeny spots on them like in your Avitar?
I thought they only had black spots and stripes?

I'm not sure...I was always thought there were two types of DPs.
I have both the green spotted and striped ones.
Thats Jill in my avatar and for some reason her spots are blue. They come off even brighter when I use my flash on my camera...

I didn't order them; they were from the LFS. And, no, there aren't two species. Some are male and some are female. There's an article in this site's library about sexing dwarf puffers. If memory serves me, your Jill is actually a Jack! What size tank do you have them in?

My Jill is a tranny???
But he/she doesn't have a stripe going down its belly.
I currently have 5 DPs in a 20gl.

I'm not *sure.* I'm really not an expert. I only know for sure that I have a boy/girl pair is that I asked the LFS to order me specific genders. S/he could be young to display all the markings yet; at any rate, someone else will be able to tell you for sure. The only reasons it's important to know who's what would be a) if you wanted to breed or (since DPs spawn more readily than most puffers, sometimes with no stimulation from the owner) REALLY don't want babies, and b) to attain the appropriate gender ratios to prevent aggression. But that was in the article.

Thanks LilGreenPuffer
I have already read that artical and have learned that males have the stripes and females have the spots, I was just curious to why some have black stripes or spotes and others have green/blue stripes or spots!?
Or are there actually no black striped and spotted DP's they just look black in certain lighting conditions?

Ah I see.
My babies get along nicely.
I've had them for about a full 9 months now.
