Just wondering how long a 3-4" Fahaka would be ok in a 50g tank?

I also have two options for tanks, 1 is a regular 55g 4ft tank and the other is a 50g breeder 3 ft long 18" deep.

Which tank would be more suitable?

I would plan to upgrade ASAP, I know in the pedia it says minimum 120g but what would be ideally the best size tank for a Fahaka in the long run?
I am planning on building a plywood tank and was thinking a 180-210g tank would be better, what do you think?

Thank you for the links, the one I have been looking at is http://www.garf.com There is also a member on my home forum who lives close to me and has built a few himself. I have been researching the subject for about 2 years now and it is about time I actually got to it:D

You could probably keep a fahaka in a 50 for a fair length of time, assuming you are very good about doing lots of big water changes to keep wastes and hormones to a minimum.

But be honest with yourself when making the decision.. will you keep up on the water changes? Will you get the new tank built in.. say 6 months or less?

Honestly I am religious about my water changes, plus I would use at least one aquaclear 500 which would give me my 10x turnover. I have been talking about building this tank for awhile now and actually having a fahaka in my house would give me the motivation to finnally get on it:D

On another note, what is the best substrate to use for a fahaka? Sand or gravel? I have a bunch of small grained gravel but it is mixed with crushed coral would that be ok to use or would it bring up the PH a little to high for a fahaka?
