i have a stars and stripes puffer who is about 4-5 inches. he lives with a spotted jaw, pair of clowns, pair of yellow wrasse, blonde naso tang, lawnmower blenny and a 8in snowflake eel. everyone is happy and hasnt been any issues.
i am trying to find out if i can put a 3 inch decorator crab in there, a sand sifting cucumber or maybe a horseshoe crab.

any help/advise would be welcomed

I think any crab is as risk. See the vid of Elvis eating a crab. Cuke should be fine though.

No crab will stand a chance if your stars & stripes is anything like Elvis. He loves crab. :D

Not to sound rude but you would need to upgrade to a much larger tank before you could add anymore fish. :)

Yes edmlfc1 is right and you will also have to upgrade your tank to 180gl. which is the minimal for a Star and Strips by themselves without any other fish in the tank. They are great fish but do grow and need the room.

That Naso needs 100+ gallons by itself. :)

As said any crab with the fish inquestion its currect size would be a great risk and i would put very god odds against it becoming lunch perosnally.

My last would not have been trusted (it was over a foot in lengh and very hungry) but my new tiny one which is golf ball sized has been tried with large Hermits (Whitespots so very large and aggressive) aswell as a few Blue Knuckles and so far over the last few months he hasnt toucjed them. I think you have a have a better chance if they live in harmony in a big aquarium from young but other things such as how well fed the fish is will also come into play of course.

Re tank size and more Puffers, as said already this Puffer will 'idealy' need a bigger home in the near furture. They are rapid growers. I had one grow for a 2/3 inch juvenile to over a foot long (not to mention his weight) in not many years at all.
