Funny Patch on Side of Puffer

I recently purchased 4 female Red-Eye puffers (C. irrubesco) to go with my 2 males. They all seemed fine, but then yesterday morning, I noticed that one of my females had a funny patch on her side. It looked as if water were under her skin, because it sort of bubbled up a little. Now I just had a bout of white spot with my other puffers, and that's not what this was.
The reason I say "was" is because I just went to clean the tank and found that female floating at the top, dead! The patch seems to have ulcerated, and had gotten a little bigger.
I need to know what this might be in case it's something all the other Red-Eye puffers will end up with, and I'd like to tackle it before it wipes out my colony of Red-Eye puffers that I've only just recently gotten.
Please HELP -- if anyone knows what this might be please let me know ASAP!
Thank you,
Suz :(

What did you do to treat the ich? Seems awfully fast to be gone already w/o meds.
