My fresh start

So, after my GSP debacle (Rookie Questions!), I was pretty sure that puffers would have to wait. Then I found out about DPs! Small... freshwater... relatively hardy... cute... perfect! I'm cycling my 10g with BB from the bio professors here, and then stocking with 2 DPs and an oto. *excited* I'm picking up the BB tomorrow!

P.S. How often should I check my water parameters? And what brand of test kit would be cheap and good? What about this? (But I don't think it tests nitrAtes.) http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=114146

Yes, the API master test kit is my favorite test kit of all time. And it does cover nitrates. It has ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and low ph.
I'm glad you're getting a dwarf puffer! They are so adorable!

DFS has it for cheaper & if you follow the rebate info stickied in this forum, you'll save a lot more.

I've seen some people say test every few hours during the cycling process. I've always tested maybe every 6 or so.

And after, once the fish are in? Like, weekly?

Yay! I'd recommend getting at least two otos, they are much happier in groups ;)

But would 2 DPs and 2 Otos really fit? It's only 10g.

They'd fit fine, oto's aren't very messy fish.

I got the bacteria from the bio professors, and I've been adding a couple of drops of ammonia to the water each day. My test kits should arrive tomorrow and I'll be able to check up on things... *excited*
