Hi guys, how you all doing?
Ive just purschased a fugu puffer fish. However on the puffer pedia thingy on here it states takifugu puffers with a pic. The pics show exactly the same specie as what I have. The thing is, takifugu puffers are abbreviated as fugu puffers yes?
Well, I have seen plenty of fugu puffers in shops that are all silver with 2 orange spots on them (similar spot layout to f.o.

?????
Im confused as to what a fugu puffer is!!
Help!
Neil

There are many species of Takifugus, that is just the "family" name. Just like there are many species of Tetraodons, Arothrons, Canthigasters, Carinotetraodon, Monotretes, etc . Did you see all those in the Pufferpedia? Whaich one do you have?

Well, technically takifugu is the genus.

But that's just me being picky lol. I meant to ask though, what does f.o. stand for? It's probably really obvious, or something I should know lol.

i've seen some silver ones before..with orange dots..they sound like Tiger Puffers....the ones I saw were babies...about 2". You should identify which ones in the takifugu family it is.....because the tigers get huge....If its the other one, which is greenish with orange saddles on it, its the Ocellatus.... Check out Pufferpedia and let us know...

Take your time & raise it to SW during the next few months. Is it in a cycled tank?

Yes fully cycled tank.
Its such a lovely looking puffer. Im really chuffed with him.
I have gravel stones on the floor at the moment, but I understand they like burrowing, would it be difficult to take out the stones and replace with sand?
Also, how does hoovering effect the sand? Does it suck all the sand up??

Nah, shouldn't be too hard, but it depends if you have any real plants in there, that makes a little trickier. Otherwise, just take everything out and scoop out the pebbles. Have you got anywhere you could move him to whilst you put the sand in, to let it settle?
As for vacuuming, I saw a technique where you just stir the sand up, to get the bits in it to the surface, and then hold the vacuum close to the sand, but not in or on it, and suck all the bits off the top.

Chuffed ? Where are you from?
Be sure to rinse, rinse, rinse that sand! You may find the water is still cloudy after all that rinsing & will need to add filter floss to your filter to clear it up. Change it when it gets clogged. Don't worry about putting the puffer in the cloudy tank--he won't mind. Make it about 3" deep but you will have to stir that sand thoroughly every week, to prevent anerobic pockets (toxic bacteria) from forming.
