I have a baby fahaka about 2" in a 90g. I'm looking into to a 150high for him in the next 2 months. I was interested in putting plants in. Nothing specail just low light, tired to a rock/driftwood stuff like java fern and moss. How will a fahaka do with live plants?

I did a quick google and it's very commonly advised that you add plants to their aquarium, so I'd go with that I suppose.

As you upgrade your tank, which you say you're going to do, you might want to reconsider getting a tall aquarium, and instead go for a breeder (shorter and wider) tank - your puffer will much appreciate it.

Oh - and welcome to the forum!

they will do well with plants. you wouldnt have to worry fahakas eating them. Just make sure your LIVE plants is solid in the gravel. Once the fahaka grows bigger if your plants is not solid in the gravel. After the fahaka swiming through it..might uproot your plants.

I agree with marksrush, you would also need a good light system to reach the bottom of the tank even for low light plants.
If you get a regular tank basic lighting will do. My fahaka will bite the plants in half. She has not uprooted any. Your best bet is to get fast growing plants, cheap plants. I also have java fern in my tank. So far she has not bitten those. I have basic lighting and I use flourish root tabs in the substrate. On the anubis she has bitten almost every leaf off. The val grass is doing good and she hasn't bitten any of it. I have Hygrophila corymbosa 'angustifolia' that's doing really well, grows fast and you can cut it and plant it all over the tank. She has bitten some of the leaves but it grows so fast you can't really tell. Just some ideas for you.

hmmm. My friend fahaka never bite/eat the plants in his tank. Only thing he told me was due to his fahakas size sometimes it uproot the plant when the fahaka swim throught it.

It really depends on their personality.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of going for the 150 tall because I only have roon for a 4x2 footprint and figured at least they'd be more water. I could squeeze a 5 foot tank in but they are hard to find. hmmm maybe I should build my own.

A 150 high is more than enough tank for a fahaka.
