Walmart...

I wrote a letter to Walmart about the conditions of their fish. They always had dead ones and sickly ones, and it was really bad. I also told them that the puffers they sell are brackish fish, not freshwater, and they get very big and need lots of space. I also mentioned the bettas in the nasty death cups.
Today I got a call from the manager of that department. He said that they will stop ordering puffers in the future, that they'll keep the tanks cleaner, and that the bettas all got a good waterchange and they'll look for a more local supplier of bettas because their shipments usually come in with lots of dead ones. So, needless to say, I am quite pleased. Now to see if they follow through with it...

Yeah, I'm very happy about it! Now I just need to check up on them every once in a while and make sure that they hold to their word...

LOL and if they don't, it sure would be funny if copies of that letter he wrote to you were mysteriously posted on their shelves every month, with the date of his writing clearly circled, until he did do something to fix it.

That's what we like to call the casual use of terrorism :)

I, too, wrote my local walmart, about the same things. I am waiting on a call or email back from them, but they have about 30 puffers in a tiny 10 gal tank, and feed them GOLD FISH FLAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! We gave one lady a lecture once night, for a good 30 minutes, about how to care for them, and how sick they are, she was going to ask her manager about feeding them at LEAST some freeze dried krill, anything is better than FLAKES (which they don't even eat!)... they still look bad though. I was even considering contacting PETA, I was so upset about those baby puffers in there. :(

Last I heard, PETA couldn't care less about fish...
But someone please correct me if I"m wrong.

Honestly, the fish are probably better off with PETA not caring about them.

They do enough damage to the rest of the animals in the world. :(

Maybe we should all make a home video showing our tanks with GSP and show them proper care...Then they'll get it out to every walmart then we save GSP from death and get gold medal n on news.

the fish are definitely better off without PETA. They euthanize a higher percentage of animals they "rescue" than most pounds do. And they advocate terrorism.

Kudos on the walmart letter. It makes me smile.

oh i knew peta was crazy but i didnt know they euthanize, yikes. well in that case i wont contact them, but someone with a high authority should do something, all we can do is write letter after letter, but i guarentee walmart will order more GSPs, and neglect them. :( my husband wont even let me go down their fish aisle anymore, because i get so mad. the lady we talked to that night told us they give NO training to employees on care for the fish there, so they just guess and feed them all the same thing.

PETA is all OVER fish - they just use a different term for them:
