The Puffer Forum

Today is WC day & when I went to Punkster's tank (the fish in my avatar), there was a giant red ball of fungus in there. I didn't think I fed her a piece of shrimp that big. When I went to get it out, it was her! Man, did she smell bad. She was swollen too. I just fed her the other day & she was fine. I tried an autopsy but her organs were kind of mushy. Nothing looked awry though. I'm so devistated...
She was a really cool fish who would bite anyone that stuck their hand in her tank.

that is so sad. I've never seen a puffer like punkster before, so i was always so jealous.

Aww, so sorry you lost your beautiful Punkster. I bet she was a great pet.

The only think I can think of I did different was put a sponge over the filter intake to keep the sand out. I was tired of cleaning out the impeller all the time. Maybe it slowed down the flow too much, depleting the O2 in the tank. I wish I had checked on her sooner.

I know you have a lot of tanks, but i'm assuming you 'glance' into each on at least daily... so how much more frequently could you have looked...

I don't know, we know what puffers do when they need oxygen, they hang out at the surface, surely you'd have seen this..?

You would have thought... but I don't spend a lot of time in the living room & she is in a bottom tank. Most of the time she's burried or sitting atop a leaf. Last time I looked she was munching down a big fat worm, which seems to have been fully digested when I looked inside her.

What a great looking fish with loads of attitude! When I see Punkster, I think of you, Pufferpunk. She'll be be remembered.

Aw that is horrible. I really hate it when that happens and there seems that there is no cause to it. I think that is when it is the most devastating. I am so sorry for your loss.
