So I have a few otos and some shrimp.... And it's 6 DPs, ~3 shrimp and 2 otos in a 33g tank...

What else can tolerate DPs?

Not much honestly, bumble bee gobies normally work with them.

Mine mixed very well with small rainbowfish species and dwarf corydoras.

That said, my 33 was an extra long tank and extremely heavily planted, so they spent most of their time hunting down red cherry shrimp and snails, and never bothered the other fish.

I think I might need to try that, since I really want some rainbows.

I believe BB gobies are high brackish fish that work with GSPs. Maybe they can tolerate FW but I have only read that they were brackish.

Yes, most BumbleBee gobies found in stores are brackish fish, not freshwater. There IS a type that is freshwater, but they aren't found in retail very often.

My friend has 2 DPs in a 55 gallon (lucky buggers, I know!), and they're kept with a bunch of cherry shrimp and a baby rainbow. I think the larger the tank you have, the more variety you can choose from (assuming you have lots of decoration).

i have kept just about every kind of community fish with a DP. The longer the fins the more noticeable the fin nipping. I'm not yet convinced that it is my DP's though. I have barbs as well as a red tailed shark. If you have a large enough tank then you can keep what ever you want with DPs just decorate accordingly. If it has flowing fins like angels though they won't for very long most likely.

Aye, I'd just avoid anything with long-flowing fins (as suggested), and make sure you aren't overstocking (in terms of living space). With that said, they're in 33 gallon, which isn't overly large, so I'm not really sure what you'd want to try.

My mollies and platy did well with them, I also had some silver tipped tetras in with them and some serpai tetras (?). I've also kept danios with them. They all did well together. You could have few 3 or 4 small schools of the tetras or danios that are 3-5 fish schools and be fine on area. They don't have much bio load impact that I have found. They just need swimming room. You could go for some upper middle and lower schooling fish for that to fill out all levels of your tanks and still have your DPs in there as well.
