Hello,

I was wondering if there are any games I could play with my GSP ? She seems board. I try to entertain her with a krill on a string, but I don't think I can do that very often. She doesn't eat the krill, she just likes to rip it into tiny shreds... and it fouls up the water. I want her brain to be stimulated so she can be smarrrrt (O_O). I bought her some plants and stuff. I move them around when she gets board. She just doesn't seem to care that the objects are moved lol. I put some small guppies in with her; she doesn't care for them either. She doesn't even acknowledge their existence .

Maybe you could post a picture of your tank?

What water type is your GSP in? My Ceylons have a lot of fun in my marine tank because I have hermit crabs and trochus snails in there for them to pick at. Since my Ceylons are still pretty small (2 inches), it's tough for them to devour the 2 inch hermit crabs, hehe.

You can also add in some powerheads (koralias are good for my suggestion) to provide them with some mono-directional flow, so they can exercise if they're bored.

Lastly, you can buy a kitten and place a table in front of the tank. My Abe LOVES to play with kittens, and the kittens love playing with him (outside the tank, of course)!

Thanks for your ideas ^_^! I'll have to try this. Right now my fishy is in heavier brackish water... I made the mistake of putting a huge snail in there... a fresh water snail... oh the horror =(.

I have heard of people buying plastic balls like ping pong balls and putting them in the tanks to entertain the puffers. Not recommended for large puffers who can eat the balls though.

Also, rolled up pieces of foil. Making a Habitrail maze for them is cool too.

My figure 8's used to always swim at the front of the tank even though the tank is packed with plants and hidey-holes and i think it's because they new where the food came from.

But a little while ago a new plant came with some hitch-hiking Malaysian Trumpet Snails and now they are constantly on the look out for more snails! So see if you can sneak in a couple of snails or shrimp when she's not looking. Get some brackish tolerant ones and put them in a little hidey-hole.

Oh I love your tanks Pufferpunk. I want to have beautiful tanks like that. Fish are the only pets I can have because my Husband is allergic to almost every animal on the planet lol.

i like to play hide the snail with my puff. also, throwing in the occassional live shrimp seems to thrill him to no end! the shrimp are so fast that he loses them and has to actually hunt for his snack. but when he catches it, holy cow. he seems so smug for the rest of the day! these are shrimp i have raised and know are parasite free and have eaten a good diet. the snails i like to drop onto plastic pot scrubbers i have floating in the tank. they crawl around for a while and eventually find the water. spot (my gsp) will eyeball them frantically. also, if you toss one in while distracting the puff makes it so he has to look for the snails. he seems to enjoy this game too

Believe it or not my GSPs watch TV- the more color and light change the better. I posted on Monster Fish Keepers about it originally (Pufferpunk may remember). I had only Bud at the time and he would sit and mope at the bottom of the tank if the TV was not on when we were out of the room (tank is in the bedroom as a headboard). I got Junior as company for him too- I DO NOT recommend getting a second GSP as just company for the first. I got lucky and they get along for now (been 6 months and they get along better each day- no bullying other than a little at feeding time). Try the TV thing- it may work.
