C. irrubesco (red eyed red tailed puffers)

Hi i have 2 red eyed red tailed puffers in an 60 litre aquarium and i was wondering if icould add some fast fish in with them. i was wondering if any of you on here have any experience in mixing these fish?

Sorry but the answer is no, because that tank isn't even big enough for one of those puffers. You need 40 gals (151 litres) for both of them.

yea been told this before, they were in a 28 litre! and the shop wanted to seel me 6!
I upgraded to a 60 litre i know that they produce high amounts of waste thats why you need lots of space but surley for a 2 inch puffer 60 litre is enough?

Noo it's not just waste unfortunately. These puffers are very aggressive and territorial and you are very lucky they are alive. Sometimes you can't even keep two of these together, cause they will just kill each other. So when you combine aggressiveness and waste together, they do need a lot of room.

Actually I'll just correct myself, they're not always agressive, so what I should have said was you got very lucky that they are more peaceful ones, but they do still need room to make territories or the peace may not last.

oh well i cant upgrade to a bigger tank just because of lack of space
ive tryed to give them on to people but they have a bad rep.
The two i have got seem quite happy togever tho, i heard puffer vary in attitueds and personalities and mine deffonatly do.

Hi,
Just to share my experience with my Irrubesco (bearing in mind that puffers can differ so much in terms of character).
I have a single female in a 90 litre tank. I had some Labidochromis Careleous fry in a breeding net growing out in the tank.
One night the breeding net came unstuck & the fry got loose in the tank with the puffer.
She didn't touch a single fish...
She is very well fed on bloodworm daily so that might be a factor.
She has an otto for permanent company & sporadic batches of cichlid fry that are grown on a bit in her tank & I have
never seen her touch another fish.
She hangs out in the plants & comes to greet me first thing in the morning begging for food.
They're such a great little fish.
