The Puffer Forum

Well, I treated for IPS and to no avail. The little puff would try so hard to eat, but was never able to hold the food for very long. I am honestly surprised he lasted as long as he did. I am very sad.

On a more positive note, my other F8 is doing VERY well. Very alert, nice rounded body, great color, very active, and only window surfs when food is near. He just cruises around all day playing in his 29 gal all by himself.

I would really like to have 2 F8s in my tank. Should I skip it and let him enjoy all 29gals to himself or should I get another one? Is there any foreseeable benefits to NOT getting another puffer?

Sorry for your loss. As far as getting another it's totally up to you. Some people keep singles, some multiples. The only benefit is there won't be a large bioload with one f8 in a 29g's (less water changes). And I'm sure the remaining puffer will be totally happy to have the place all to him/herself.

Well, then I will let him I think. I don't know if I will do less water changes, but I like the idea that he may live happier by himself. (as in lower amounts of waste)

Personally I think fish like companionship. I know most say they are fine and happy alone but....somehow I feel they are happier with other live critters around. My larger gsp acts dominate mainly at feeding time towards the other gsp. Most other times they swim together and always sleep together. That has got to say something about liking to be near another fish. I guess I would also say that a single fish would do fine alone.

The thing is you would need to QT a new fish and probably treat for IP's which is always a lot of work. With some time you will know what to do.

If you're thinking of puting another F8... what about mollies, BBGs, glassfishes? I know all articles say it's ok to keep one puffer living by itself, but I feel they get less stressed when they have some company...

Well, after a week or so of thinking, I decided to get another puffer. Also, I just bought my first DSLR camera, so when he is out of quarantine and into the tank, I will try to get some pics.

A house without a puffer is not a home. Glad to hear you got another one. I couldn't live without my puffys.
