Feeding my GSPs with snails

I noticed my little GSPs like snails a lot (in fact they eat almost anything. They even bite your fingers). It's time for me to feed them with some hard shell stuffs to prevent plates overgrow. I've read RTR's article on snail breeding and just started a small tank to breed them. It might takes awhile.

Meanwhile, I found a LFS who sell snails. The snails are about 1/2 inch size. Are they too big for my GSPs? Can my GSPs crush them with their teeth? My GSPs are about 2 to 2 1/2 inches long.

GSPs outgrow snails. Even I would have a hard time producing enough large snails for them as they mature.

But on sizing and feeding, they best size is the one they will crush and eat. That is not easily predicted, but the rough rule of thumb is about the size of the puffer's eye. The 1/2" snails may be a bit big, but you could test some to see if they are taken.

I put a few 1/2 inch snails. Those puffers tried to bite open and suck them out but it's too big for their small mouth. Eventually I had to crush them myself, only then can they have their meal today.
