I got a blue spotted toby from a local reefer. Poor thing was starving but I've fattened him up good now. I was waiting for him to get a little weight on & see if he would color up, which he did. I have been loooking over a lot of different pics of the Solandri & Papuan but he doesn't have any of the tan or orange they have, just lots of blue spots everywhere (belly, face, tail) & blue stripes around his eyes. I can't post a pic right now, because I can't seem to get my camera to link to the computer.

Found this on a Japanese website. The picture was taken in Guam.

Mine doesn't have any orange though & the lines on the face don't connect across the forehead.

is the caudal fin transparent or patterned?

Tail has blue spots all over it. None of those pics have my puffer.

DRRT's puffer: C. solandri, likely male. How long is he?

A similar one is shown in "World Atlas of marine fishes" by Kuiter & Debelius.

That looks like him! Why do I see so many pics of solandri with orange?

@edmlfc1: beware, the site liveaquaria has (very) often wrong IDs for non-standard fishes.

This solandri-margaritata-papua species group is not entirely comprehensive. There seems to be a lot of variation of the coloration (also depending on location, these appear (!) like Micronesian ones), but also transitions between them. Having the origin of these puffers would be a great help to clarify that.

I'm just putting it in the current taxonomic scheme, which would in opinion clearly says C. solandri.

Mine came from a suburb of Chicago.

It was about 3 in and i had had it for over a year and a half.
