Hi everyone!

Yesterday, I saw 2 palembangensis in the only lfs near to me who have puffers (not often). So, I would like to learn more about them before to decide if I will buy one. First, they sell them 50$ (Canadian dollars) each. Is it a good price? They call them red dragon puffer and I have to learn the staff that they are pelembangensis (after looking in the pufferpedia).

I would like to learn from those of you who have a pelembangensis or had one in the past. Tell me all I need to know!!

I need a 40g for him but for the moment (its a deal with my man!), I can have one more tank. So, I already have an hexagonal 35g tank. I know its not the best but if I put one in until I can have a bigger tank, do you think that he'll be happy? With caves to hide and plants?

I would also like to share with you the joy to find the same day at the same place a female red eye puffer (irrubesco) for my male! In the last months, each time I was in this lfs, I was asking them if they can have puffers and, by the way, a female irrubesco!! So, she's in a 5g at home now and I hope that she'll be happy when I'll put her with the male!

They have some Palembang puffers at the LFS that I go to. They are really neat looking, but they don't seem to move around at all. They all just crowd around the heater. It's really cute.

ive had 2 pamelbang puffers for about a year now .there lurkers and are only really active at night but as soon as the lights go off at night there at the glass begging for food. i use to have qt tank for feeders rite next to there tank and they would both sit there and stare at the feeder tank all the time it was pretty funny to watch. i recently moved that tank they now have no interest in that side of the tank lol. mine also only seem to like eating market shrimp, crayfish, ghost shrimp, and of course they love feeder fish thats about it. they have no interest in clams and mussels

So when you say feeder fish, what kind of fish is it exactly? And for the ghost shrimp and crayfish, you have them in a tank? Do you buy them when you need to feed your puffers or do they breed in another tank?? And your puffers, do they eat snail too??

I only have small puffers so I'm not use to feed a big one!

the main thing i feed them is market shimp but when ever i see ghost shrimp or cray fish for cheap i pick some up. as for feeders i try to stay away from goldfish. i normal just get white clouds or ruby reds if i can. also i feed them every other day but u probably could wait 2-3 day between feeding

I must say i'm also fortunate enough to own a palembangensis as well, although i've only had him / her for about 4 months now hes actually turned out to be a little more active than i originally thought, considering that for the first month all he did was sit in the same spot day in day out... With that being said though, now that he actually knows me, and the fact that i'm the person that feeds him he will come out of his hiding spot(s) to greet me and beg for food normally when i get home after work, even with the lights in the tank still on...

I mean, as far as this puffer goes, if you only plan on keeping this guys in a tank of his own, you should be prepared not to really see much action happening in your tank unless its feeding time, since they will only ever really lurk... but as far as feeding goes, i normally buy live seawater shrimps from the markets, cut them up, then freeze them till its feeding time (at which point i'll deforst and feed)...

Also to give him a little work out, i also throw in some Ghost shrimp and stuff like that from time to time just to keep him extra happy...

Please stopp feeding feeders to your puffers. Read the article on this in our Libary.
